Academics at St. Helena School

Academic Excellence

St. Helena School lays a solid academic foundation. Expectations are high, and a dedicated teaching staff creates a nurturing environment that supports learning and fosters academic excellence.

The core curriculum of math, science, language arts, social studies and religion is the foundation for academics. In addition, we offer music, art, computer science, library, French, and physical education to all grades.

Many of our students go on to achieve the highest honors in high school and college. Last year all of our eighth graders were accepted to their first choice high school.

SAT 10

Beginning at the end of September, Stanford Achievement Tests (SAT 10) are administered to all students in grades 1-8. Each student is tested in all core curriculum areas. The SAT 10 replaces the Metropolitan Achievement Test (MAT 8) which was administered in the past.

The SAT 10 has been designed to engage students in the task. The test is in full color with realistic illustrations making it more like the instructional materials used in the classroom every day. The answer document visually organizes the answer spaces according to the questions on each page. The SAT 10 is not a timed test encouraging all students to complete the test to the best of their ability. The SAT 10 is a multiple-choice assessment which will help the teachers and principal find out what students know and what they are able to do. This is a reliable tool to evaluate progress towards meeting content standards and to identify students who are at risk of being left behind. The parents will receive a home report that is easy to read and understand.
